Kanojo wa Zombie

Kanojo wa Zombie, often identified as a project linked to the animation studio Millepensee, emerged from the mid-2010s trend of revitalizing niche light novel and manga properties for the burgeoning streaming market. Produced during a period where Millepensee was gaining traction as a boutique studio focusing on character-driven narratives, the title reflects a stylistic shift toward blending dark comedy with the supernatural tropes popular in contemporary otaku culture.

The design and artistic direction for this production were heavily influenced by the visual aesthetics common to late-night seinen adaptations, prioritizing expressive character silhouettes and high-contrast color palettes typical of Millepensee's early portfolio. While the title occupied a modest space within the broader seasonal release schedule, it was received as a stylistic experiment that leaned into the studio's interest in unconventional character archetypes and atmospheric world-building.
