Where it came from
The Katekyo Hitman REBORN! × ēlDLIVE SP Collaboration Mini Anime was released in 2016 as a promotional initiative to celebrate the works of manga artist Akira Amano. It served as a crossover event bridging two of her most prominent series, bringing the characters of the long-running Mafia-themed shonen series Katekyo Hitman REBORN! together with the futuristic space-police setting of ēlDLIVE.
The short was produced by Studio Pierrot, the animation house responsible for the adaptations of both respective series. The design approach focused on maintaining the distinct visual identities of Amano’s art style while integrating the contrasting tones of the two narratives into a singular, brief crossover sequence. It was received by fans as a nostalgic nod to the legacy of the Reborn series and a strategic push for the then-upcoming ēlDLIVE anime adaptation.
