Where it came from
Katsugeki Shoujo Tanteidan, also known as Action Girl Detective Team, was produced in 1986 by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. It emerged during a period in the 1980s when the studio was heavily involved in the booming direct-to-video OVA market, which allowed creators to experiment with niche genres and lighter, episodic storytelling outside of the constraints of television broadcast requirements.
The project was designed as a lighthearted adventure featuring a group of young, spirited protagonists solving mysteries, reflecting the prevailing interest in 'gal' culture and comedic action-adventure tropes of the era. While it serves as a piece of 1980s animation history, it remained a relatively obscure title within the studio's extensive catalog, appreciated primarily by collectors of vintage OVA works who focus on the aesthetic shifts of Tokyo Movie Shinsha during this decade.
