Where it came from
Keijo!!!!!!!! was produced by Studio Xebec and aired in 2016 as an adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Daichi Sorayomi. The series occupies a unique niche in the sports anime genre, centering on a fictionalized competitive water sport where female athletes use their breasts and buttocks to knock opponents off floating platforms. The premise was designed to subvert typical shonen tropes by treating the absurd sport with the earnest intensity of high-stakes athletics.
Upon its release, the series received significant attention for its balance of slapstick comedy and surprising technical execution. While the show's premise was intentionally provocative, reviewers often noted the unexpected quality of the animation and the genuinely strategic nature of the matches. It has since become a cult classic, frequently cited in discussions about the boundaries of the sports genre and the studio's ability to maintain a consistent tone throughout an intentionally outlandish narrative.
