Where it came from
Keifuku-san is a short-form original net animation released in 2017 as part of a collaborative promotional campaign between the Japanese city of Fukui and the studio Pony Canyon. The series was designed to boost regional tourism by highlighting the local charms, food, and history of the Fukui prefecture through a whimsical, personified lens.
The project features character designs by the illustrator Aoi Sagimoto, who aimed for a gentle, approachable aesthetic to capture the spirit of the region. The animation was received as a charming and low-stakes exploration of local culture, functioning primarily as a soft-power marketing tool intended to endear viewers to the aesthetic and historical identity of Fukui.
