Kemono Friends 2

Kemono Friends 2 was produced by Studio Tomason and broadcast in 2019 as a direct sequel to the 2017 anime adaptation of the mobile game franchise. The production followed a period of intense public controversy regarding the original series' director, Tatsuki, and his departure from the studio Kadokawa. This context created a difficult reception environment, as the fanbase held high expectations based on the unexpected viral success and distinct aesthetic of the first season.

The series was directed by Ryuichi Kimura, who aimed to preserve the core premise of anthropomorphized animals exploring the post-apocalyptic Japari Park. However, the visual style and narrative tone shifted significantly from the previous iteration, leading to polarized critical feedback. While it serves as an official continuation of the multimedia project, it remains a focal point in discussions about fan-driven discourse and the challenges of managing transmedia franchises in Japanese animation.
