Where it came from
Kennel Tokorozawa was released as an original video animation in 1992, emerging during a period when Japanese television networks were actively expanding their catalogs into the home video market. Produced by Fuji TV, the project serves as a niche curiosity within the studio's animation history, reflecting the era's experimental approach to anthology storytelling and character-driven shorts designed for the burgeoning VHS collector base.
The production style leans into the aesthetic common to early nineties Japanese animation, prioritizing whimsical character designs and a lighthearted, episodic narrative structure. While it remains a deep-cut title rather than a mainstream hit, it is appreciated by enthusiasts for its snapshot of the aesthetic sensibilities that defined the local broadcast industry's side-ventures into the direct-to-video format.
