Where it came from
Kidou Senshi Gundam Battlefield Record: Avant-Title was produced by Sunrise in 2009 as a promotional short to support the launch of the PlayStation 3 video game Mobile Suit Gundam: Battlefield Record U.C. 0081. Set within the Universal Century timeline, the piece serves as a narrative bridge designed to immerse players in the gritty, tactical atmosphere of the One Year War and its immediate aftermath, emphasizing the transition from established series lore into the interactive gameplay environment.
The animation reflects the aesthetic standards of mid-2000s Sunrise productions, focusing on high-fidelity mechanical design and realistic combat sequences that align with the game's emphasis on pilot agency. It was received by the Gundam community as a polished supplementary work that effectively contextualized the game's original characters, helping to bridge the gap between classic anime tropes and the specific technical goals of the Battlefield Record project.
