Kigyou Senshi YAMAZAKI: LONG DISTANCE CALL

Kigyou Senshi Yamazaki: Long Distance Call was produced by Ripple Film and released in 1997 as a two-part original video animation series. Adapted from the manga by Mami Itoh, the project emerged during the mid-nineties fascination with satirical depictions of the Japanese 'salaryman' lifestyle. The narrative follows Jiro Yamazaki, a low-level corporate employee who finds himself caught in a bizarre, high-stakes science fiction conflict that contrasts sharply with the mundane drudgery of his office environment.

The animation style and character designs reflect the aesthetic standards of independent OVA productions from the late 1990s, focusing on a blend of slapstick humor and corporate satire. While the series was designed to appeal to fans of quirky, character-driven comedy, it remained a niche title upon its release. It is now remembered primarily as a curiosity of the era, offering a lighthearted, absurdist commentary on the rigid hierarchies and social pressures inherent in the corporate culture of the time.
