The story takes place in Kisshou City, one of a few remaining oases surrounded by lifeless land devastated by a long world war. Wreckages of humanoid weapons, called "Legacies", are collected and reassembled by the residents of the city. One day, a gang of bandits approaches the city to seize the secrets hidden in the Legacies. The mayor decides to intercept them with a special robot Ω99, which has remained intact since the war. A teenage boy Yamato is called up for the pilot. He is just an ordinary gamer who doesn't even know about the city's crisis.

Where it came from
Kihei Senki Legacies was produced by the studio Trick Block and released as an original video animation series in 2010. It emerged during a period when independent animation studios were increasingly experimenting with condensed narrative formats, seeking to translate complex, world-heavy lore into limited-run installments. The series serves as an expansion of the broader Kihei Senki universe, focusing on shifting power dynamics and ancestral conflicts within its established science-fantasy setting.
The visual design and directorial choices reflect an attempt to balance traditional hand-drawn character aesthetics with digital-heavy background environments. While the project was noted within niche animation circles for its ambitious world-building, it received a modest critical reception, with observers often highlighting the stark contrast between its dense mythological exposition and the constraints of the short-form OVA format. It remains a curious artifact of early 2010s experimental animation.
