Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki: Jonan no Saijitsu

Kiitarou Shounen no Youkai Enikki: Jonan no Saijitsu was produced by Creators in Pack as a special episode bundled with the home video release of the 2016 anime adaptation of the manga by Yuuichi Kiriki. The series follows the titular protagonist, Kiitarou, a boy gifted with the ability to see supernatural beings known as youkai, as he navigates daily life in a sprawling, abandoned house inhabited by various creatures.

The production team, which included director Hisayoshi Hirasawa, aimed to capture the charming, low-stakes aesthetic of the original source material. By focusing on the episodic, often humorous interactions between the human boy and the folklore-inspired spirits, the creators sought to balance traditional Japanese mythology with a contemporary slice-of-life tone. The special was well-received by fans of the series for providing additional character vignettes that expanded upon the quirky, cozy atmosphere established in the television broadcast.
