Kiki to Lala no Habatake! Pegasus

Kiki to Lala no Habatake! Pegasus was produced by Grouper Production and released in 1991 as part of the long-standing Little Twin Stars franchise, which features characters originally created by Sanrio in 1975. This OVA was developed during a period when Sanrio was actively expanding its character merchandise into animated media to engage a younger audience, grounding the fantastical, pastel-hued aesthetic of Kiki and Lala within a narrative framework that emphasized themes of friendship and wonder.

The visual design of the work reflects the signature 'kawaii' aesthetic established by Sanrio designers, characterized by soft color palettes and ethereal, dreamy settings. While the animation style is typical of the early 1990s Japanese direct-to-video market, it is regarded by enthusiasts as a charming artifact of Sanrio's multimedia strategy. It received a modest but appreciative reception among the brand's core demographic, serving primarily as a vehicle to deepen the emotional connection between viewers and the iconic twin characters.
