Where it came from
Released in 1993, Kiki to Lala no Hakuchouza no Ohime-sama is a direct-to-video animation featuring Sanrio's iconic Little Twin Stars characters. Produced during a period when Sanrio was heavily expanding its media presence through educational and narrative OVAs, this short film was designed to bring the whimsical aesthetics of the 1975-born characters to a new generation of children through soft-toned, moral-driven storytelling.
The production leans into the classic Sanrio visual style, emphasizing pastel palettes and gentle character designs that define the Little Twin Stars franchise. While these OVAs were primarily distributed through rental shops and educational outlets in Japan rather than theatrical circuits, they remain a significant piece of 1990s Sanrio ephemera, representing the studio's commitment to building immersive, character-focused worlds that reinforced their core values of friendship and kindness.
