Where it came from
Released by Sanrio in 1993, Kiki to Lala no Ohime-sama ni Naritai is an original video animation featuring the company's iconic Little Twin Stars characters. This production emerged during a period when Sanrio was actively expanding its intellectual property beyond stationery and merchandise, utilizing direct-to-video releases to deepen the narrative world of its most popular mascots for a younger audience.
The animation reflects the soft, pastel-infused aesthetic characteristic of 1970s and 1980s Sanrio design, overseen by the studio's internal creative teams to maintain brand consistency. Like many titles in the Sanrio OVA library, the work was intended for domestic home video consumption, emphasizing themes of fantasy and childhood wonder that define the Little Twin Stars brand, and it remains a modest point of interest for collectors of 1990s character-based Japanese animation.
