Kinnikuman: Kinnikusei Oui Soudatsu-hen

Kinnikuman: Kinnikusei Oui Soudatsu-hen was produced by Toei Animation and aired beginning in 1991, serving as a direct continuation of the classic wrestling-themed franchise. It focuses on the intense throne-contention arc, bringing the original manga's later narrative beats to television. The series was designed to capture the heightened stakes of the manga's conclusion, shifting the tone toward more complex character dynamics as Prince Kinnikuman fought to prove his legitimacy as the rightful ruler of his home planet.

The animation reflects the aesthetic standards of early nineties Toei productions, balancing the comedic roots of the franchise with the increasingly dramatic, combat-heavy storytelling that defined the era. While it faced the challenge of transitioning a long-running narrative into a new decade of media, the series was well-received by fans of the original work for its faithful adaptation of the final tournament arc. Its design relies heavily on the iconography established by Yudetamago, the duo responsible for the source manga, ensuring the character designs remained consistent with the legacy of the Kinnikuman universe.
