Where it came from
Kirari Kagayaku was released in 2017 as a promotional ONA, or original net animation, produced to highlight the collaborative efforts between the Japanese city of Ise and the creative industries. The project was conceived as a regional revitalization initiative, utilizing the medium of animation to showcase the local scenery, cultural heritage, and atmospheric charm of the city to a broader national and international audience.
The production sought to blend traditional Japanese aesthetics with a contemporary, lighthearted narrative style common in modern short-form animation. By focusing on the visual beauty of the region, the creators aimed to evoke a sense of warmth and curiosity among viewers. The piece was generally received as a modest, well-intentioned effort that effectively fulfilled its goal as a soft-power marketing tool for municipal tourism.
