Kiratto Pri☆chan debuted in 2018 as the third major entry in the long-running Pretty Series multimedia franchise, produced by Tatsunoko Production in collaboration with Dongwoo A&E. Building upon the themes of performance and idol culture established by its predecessors, Pretty Rhythm and PriPara, the series shifted its focus to the contemporary phenomenon of social media influencers and live streaming. It follows the protagonists Mirai Momoyama and Emo Moegi as they navigate the Pri☆chan System to build their digital presence, reflecting the real-world rise of platform-driven content creation among youth demographics.

The character design was spearheaded by Hajime Mitsuda, who aimed to create a visually distinct aesthetic that balanced the high-energy, colorful style characteristic of the franchise with the modern, tech-integrated setting of the narrative. The series was well-received for its integration of lighthearted comedy with the mechanics of virtual broadcasting, effectively updating the franchise's formula for a generation increasingly familiar with platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Its production emphasized a seamless blend of traditional 2D animation for character interactions and 3D CG for the signature musical performance sequences.
