Where it came from
Koro-sensei Q! originated as a spin-off to the popular Assassination Classroom franchise, transitioning the familiar characters into a comedic role-playing game fantasy setting. Produced by Studio Lerche and released in 2016, the project was designed to expand the franchise's whimsical side while maintaining the core personality traits of the students and their titular alien teacher. It reimagines the high-stakes classroom dynamics as a quest-driven adventure, blending parody with the established character archetypes that defined the original series.
The production utilized a chibi art style to emphasize the humorous, lighthearted tone of the fantasy-themed premise. By leveraging the existing character designs but applying a super-deformed aesthetic, the team at Lerche sought to offer a quick, accessible experience that contrasted with the more dramatic arc of the primary series. Upon its release, it was received as a playful supplement that appealed primarily to established fans seeking further content featuring their favorite characters in a low-stakes, humorous environment.
