Kuromajo-san ga Tooru!!

Kuromajo-san ga Tooru!! originated as a series of popular children's novels written by Hiroshi Ishizaki and illustrated by Fujita Kaori, published by Kodansha beginning in 2005. The story follows a young girl named Chiyoko Kurotori who inadvertently summons a black witch, leading to a series of comedic and supernatural adventures. Given the whimsical and slightly dark tone of the original literature, the intellectual property found success among a younger demographic interested in magic-themed slice-of-life narratives.

The 2012 television adaptation was produced by Shin-Ei Animation and broadcast on NHK E Tele. The production team aimed to capture the distinct, expressive character designs of the source material while maintaining an episodic structure suitable for morning television. The series was generally well-received for its quirky humor and its ability to balance traditional magical girl tropes with a distinct, somewhat mischievous personality that differentiated it from more conventional titles airing during that period.
