KUROMI'S PRETTY JOURNEY

Kuromi's Pretty Journey is a 2023 web animation series, or ONA, produced by the studio Qzil.la under the direction of Sanrio. The series was created to expand the narrative depth of the character Kuromi, who has historically served as a secondary character in the Hello Kitty universe. Released through social media platforms and the official Sanrio YouTube channel, the show aims to provide a more detailed exploration of Kuromi's personality and her search for her long-lost older sister.

The animation style and design direction for the project prioritize a bright, stylized aesthetic that aligns with contemporary short-form web content intended for a younger, digitally native audience. By focusing on a serialized story arc rather than traditional episodic gags, the production signals a strategic shift in how Sanrio manages its intellectual property, moving toward character-driven world-building. The series has been received as a successful modernization of the character, helping to solidify Kuromi's recent surge in popularity among global audiences.
