Where it came from
Kuromi's Pretty Journey Season 2: Escape from the Multiverse! was released in 2024 as a continuation of Sanrio's successful ONA series produced by the animation studio Qzil.la. Following the conclusion of the first season, which focused on Kuromi's search for her sister Romina, this follow-up shifts into a multiversal narrative structure to expand the brand's character lore and capitalize on the character's rising popularity as a rebellious, fashion-forward icon within the Sanrio portfolio.
The visual direction and character designs were developed by the creative teams at Sanrio and Qzil.la to maintain the stylistic consistency established in the initial run, balancing Kuromi’s signature punk-inspired aesthetic with a vibrant, fast-paced animation style. The series was designed specifically for digital distribution, targeting a global audience through platforms like YouTube to leverage the character's massive social media following and align with the trend of short-form, episodic digital storytelling.
