Where it came from
La corda d’oro -Blue Sky- was produced by the studio TYO Animations and released in 2014 as the third anime adaptation in Koei Tecmo’s long-running multimedia franchise, La corda d’oro. The series emerged from a context of popular otome games centered on classical music, shifting the narrative focus from the original Seiso Academy to the competitive environment of the Ensemble Competition, where protagonist Kanade Kohinata navigates relationships with various rival school teams.
The character designs for the series were adapted by Maki Fujioka, building upon the original aesthetic established by manga artist Yuki Kure. The production aimed to modernize the visual style of the series to align with contemporary shoujo anime trends of the mid-2010s while maintaining the franchise's signature emphasis on orchestral performances and romantic tension. Upon its release, it was received as a stylistic departure that prioritized its ensemble cast and expanded the pool of romantic interests, drawing a dedicated response from fans of the established game series.
