Where it came from
Little Pollon, known in Japan as Olynpos no Pollon, debuted in 1982 as a television anime series produced by Kokusai Eigasha. The series was based on the manga by Hideo Azuma and serves as a whimsical, often irreverent reimagining of Greek mythology. It follows the adventures of Pollon, the daughter of Apollo, as she navigates Mount Olympus and interacts with a cast of eccentric, humanized deities in a narrative style that blends slapstick comedy with educational nods to ancient legends.
The character design captures the aesthetic trends of early 1980s animation, utilizing expressive, rounded features that allowed for the show's distinct brand of fast-paced physical humor. While the series was aimed at a younger demographic, its subversive take on established myths and its witty script helped it cultivate a lasting cult following. It remains a notable example of the studio's output during the period, remembered for its playful tone and its contribution to the proliferation of mythological adaptations in Japanese media.
