Long Zhi Gu: Jingling Wangzuo

Long Zhi Gu: Jingling Wangzuo, known internationally as Dragon Nest: Throne of Elves, was released in 2016 as a sequel to the 2014 film Dragon Nest: Warriors' Dawn. Produced by Mili Pictures, the project sought to expand the lore of the Dragon Nest online multiplayer game by moving away from the dark, grim aesthetics of the first installment toward a more vibrant, high-fantasy visual style. The film aimed to leverage the popularity of the game franchise in China while appealing to a global audience through high-quality computer-generated animation.

The production team focused heavily on character design and environmental storytelling to differentiate the Elven kingdom from the human-centric locations of the previous entry. Despite the ambitious shift in aesthetic direction, the film received a mixed reception from critics, who noted the technical improvements in animation quality but expressed reservations regarding the narrative depth and pacing. It remains a notable example of the trend during the mid-2010s of Chinese production houses attempting to adapt domestic video game intellectual property into feature-length cinematic experiences.
