Where it came from
Look at Me! was produced by Geidai Animation, the renowned student-led animation program at Tokyo University of the Arts. Established to foster independent vision and technical rigor, the studio provides a professional environment for graduate students to develop short-form animated works. The film emerged as a thesis project, reflecting the institution's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional animation styles and experimental storytelling.
The film is characterized by its distinct visual language, which emphasizes texture and nuanced character movement over standard commercial tropes. Designed as a meditative exploration of identity and self-perception, the animation process was led by students under the mentorship of industry veterans. Upon its release, it was noted in academic and festival circles for its sophisticated pacing and its departure from conventional narrative structures, securing its place within the Geidai catalog of notable student achievements.
