Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: Depth of Field - Ai to Nikushimi Gekijou

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions: Depth of Field - Ai to Nikushimi Gekijou was produced by Kyoto Animation in 2013 as a series of six short episodes included with the home video releases of the first season. These segments serve as an extension of the franchise's exploration of middle-school delusions, focusing on the comedic misunderstandings and interactions between Rikka Takanashi and Yuuta Togashi. The shorts maintain the studio's high production standards, utilizing the same character designs by Kazumi Ikeda, who aimed to emphasize the juxtaposition between the characters' mundane daily lives and their elaborate, imagined fantasy personas.

The reception of these shorts was largely positive among fans who appreciated the additional character development and the studio's signature comedic timing. By blending high-fidelity animation with the series' core themes of adolescent identity and self-perception, these vignettes act as a stylistic companion to the main series. The project highlights Kyoto Animation’s commitment to world-building, as they expanded the narrative scope of the franchise through these brief, distinct creative exercises that prioritize character-driven humor.
