Love Me, Love Me, Love Me

Love Me, Love Me, Love Me is a notable picture book written and illustrated by Molly Bang, originally published in 1971. The narrative explores themes of loneliness and the desperate search for affection through the experiences of a young character navigating emotional vulnerability. It emerged during a period when children's literature was increasingly shifting toward more complex, psychological portrayals of childhood experiences.

Molly Bang, an accomplished artist and author known for her focus on visual structure and emotional impact, utilized a minimalist and direct artistic style for this work. The design choices were intended to strip away distraction, focusing the reader on the raw, repetitive nature of the protagonist’s plea. Upon its release, the book was recognized for its poignant, if somber, tone, marking an early entry in an authorial career that would later produce acclaimed titles like When Sophie Gets Angry—Really, Really Angry.
