The "heartwarming 'kome'dy with laughs and passion" promises to let audiences rediscover the virtues of rice ("Japan's soul food"). It follows five handsome rice-inspired boys as they shine at the "Harvest Show" live event at the Kokuritsu Inahou Gakuen ("Rice Ear Academy," a wordplay on national schools).

Where it came from
Love Rice, known in Japan as Love Kome: We Love Rice, was produced by Encourage Films and debuted in 2017. Created to promote Japanese rice consumption through anthropomorphic personification, the series reimagines various rice brands as students at the Kokuritsu Inaho Academy, where they compete to prove that rice is the superior staple food. This eccentric premise blends culinary education with the conventions of idol and school-life anime.
The character designs were handled by Takashi Yano, who aimed to give each grain variety a distinct personality reflecting its real-world agricultural characteristics, such as texture and regional origin. While the series was a niche experiment in cross-media promotion, it gained a cult following for its unconventional subject matter and whimsical approach to traditional Japanese agriculture.
