Love Position Halley Densetsu

Love Position Halley Densetsu was produced by Tezuka Productions and released in 1986 as an original video animation. It emerged during a decade characterized by the rapid expansion of the direct-to-video anime market in Japan, which allowed for experimental storytelling and collaborations that fell outside the traditional constraints of television broadcast. The project was conceived as a promotional tie-in for the highly anticipated 1986 return of Halley's Comet, capturing the widespread cultural fascination with the astronomical event that gripped the Japanese public at the time.

The production is notable for the direct involvement of Osamu Tezuka, the legendary pioneer often referred to as the father of manga. Tezuka provided the character designs and served as the chief director, aiming to blend whimsical science fiction with his signature humanist narrative style. Despite the prestige of the studio and its iconic creator, the work is frequently categorized as a niche curiosity within Tezuka’s vast filmography, remembered more for its thematic connection to the 1986 comet sighting than for a significant critical or commercial impact upon its release.
