Madang-Eul Naon Amtalg

Released in 2011, Madang-Eul Naon Amtalg, known internationally as Leafie, A Hen into the Wild, was produced by Myung Films and Odolttogi. It is based on the 2000 bestselling novella by Hwang Sun-mi. The film emerged during a period when the South Korean animation industry was seeking to establish a foothold in high-quality, emotionally resonant feature storytelling, aiming to bridge the gap between local literary heritage and global cinematic appeal.

The film was directed by Oh Sung-yoon, who spent six years developing the project. His vision focused on a lush, hand-drawn aesthetic that moved away from the then-dominant digital trends, intending to capture a more organic and melancholic tone suitable for the story's themes of motherhood, sacrifice, and the cycle of nature. Upon its release, it became a significant success in South Korea, receiving critical acclaim for its artistic integrity and becoming one of the highest-grossing domestic animated films of its era.
