Ureshiko Asaba, 26 years old, married. Few people know the fact that she is a magical girl named "Agnes", and she is actually the guardian of the town where she lives. One day she meets Sayaka Kurenai, aka "Cruje", another magical girl appointed by the magic realm as the legitimate sucessor to her position, but Agnes is reluctant in letting her assume because she knows that Cruje has orders to erase the whole place, including its human inhabitants with the purpose of creating a new one. To complicate matters, Ureshiko must deal with the growing distance between her and her husband, Tamotsu, her crescent feelings for Tatsumi Kagura, a young man who is now living as a tenant in her home, and the fact that in the moment she ever kisses a common human, she would lose her powers forever.

Where it came from
Madam is a Magical Girl, known in Japan as Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu, was produced by J.C.Staff and aired in 2005. It emerged during a period when the studio was heavily experimenting with digital animation techniques, blending traditional aesthetic sensibilities with computer-generated imagery. The series serves as a subversion of the traditional magical girl genre, focusing on a group of young witches who prioritize practical, often chaotic solutions to problems over the typical whimsical tropes associated with the category.
The character designs and visual direction were crafted to distinguish the show from the pastel-heavy, sparkles-and-ribbons style common in the early 2000s. By opting for a flatter, more stylized color palette and emphasizing the rigid, academic structure of the magical world, the production team intended to highlight the tension between strict institutional rules and the chaotic nature of true magic. While it received moderate attention during its initial broadcast, it remains a notable example of the experimental stylistic shifts that defined mid-2000s television animation in Japan.
