Where it came from
Mahou Shoujo Nante Mouiidesukara, or 'I've Had Enough of Being a Magical Girl,' originated as a manga series by Sui Futami before being adapted into an anime by studio PINE JAM. The second season premiered in 2016, following the story of Yuzuka Hanami, a girl who finds herself disillusioned after being transformed into a magical girl by a strange, rabbit-like creature named Miton. The series is framed as a short-form comedy that subverts the tropes of the magical girl genre by focusing on the protagonist's indifference toward her newfound responsibilities.
The production sought to lean into the absurdity of the source material, utilizing a fast-paced, episodic structure that highlights the comedic friction between the mundane lives of the characters and the demands of their supernatural roles. Directed by Kazuhiro Yoneda, the second season maintained the lighthearted visual style established in the first, focusing on expressive character animation to enhance the slapstick humor. It was generally received as a niche but charming addition to the 'short' anime format, appealing primarily to viewers looking for a quick-witted parody of established genre conventions.
