A world where the existence of magic has been known for a century as a mysterious power to rival science. However, the discovery of MISO - the Material of an Impediment to the Sorcerer's Orders - made magic into not a special power, but a technique that can be raised. One morning, while Shouta Hacchouya (a high school boy attending a magic academy) was tasting miso soup, a princess of Majieeru suddenly breaks in. Majieeru happens to be the birthplace of magic.

Where it came from
Mahou Tsukai Nara Miso wo Kue!, which translates to If You Are a Magic User, Eat Miso!, was produced by AIC and released as an original video animation in 2012. It emerged during a period when the studio was actively adapting niche light novel properties, aiming to blend the magical girl genre with eccentric comedy elements. The narrative centers on a protagonist who must navigate absurd challenges, reflecting the common light novel trend of the era where supernatural themes were frequently juxtaposed with mundane or quirky domestic tasks.
The production was characterized by a distinct aesthetic common to AIC's late 2000s and early 2010s output, emphasizing vibrant character designs and slapstick-heavy animation sequences. While the project was intended to serve as a standalone comedic vehicle for fans of the source material, it received a relatively modest reception upon release. It remains a deep-cut title within the studio's extensive filmography, representative of the specialized, fan-focused market that defined the direct-to-video animation landscape before the industry shifted more heavily toward digital streaming distribution.
