MAJOR 2nd

Major 2nd is a Japanese animated television series that premiered in 2018, produced by NHK Enterprises as a continuation of Takuya Mitsuda’s long-running manga series Major. The narrative follows Daigo Shigeno, the son of the legendary professional baseball player Goro Shigeno, as he navigates the pressures of his father's legacy while attempting to find his own identity within the sport of baseball. The series was developed to bridge the gap between legacy storytelling and the growth of a new generation of youth athletes.

The production sought to maintain the high-stakes, earnest tone of its predecessor while shifting the focus toward team dynamics and the complexities of middle school sports. Directed by Ayumu Watanabe, the animation captures the technical nuances of baseball gameplay alongside the character-driven drama inherent in the sports genre. Upon its release, it was well-received by audiences for its thoughtful exploration of talent, expectation, and the genuine camaraderie found in organized team athletics.
