Where it came from
Master of Mosquiton originated as a 1996 original video animation series produced by Zero-G Room and distributed internationally by ADV Films during the height of the 1990s anime boom in the West. The narrative serves as a supernatural comedy blending gothic horror tropes with screwball romantic dynamics, centered on an immortal vampire named Alucard von Mosquiton who is summoned by a treasure hunter named Inaho Hitomebore.
The character design and visual direction lean heavily into the aesthetic sensibilities of mid-90s seinen anime, prioritizing exaggerated comedic expressions balanced against occult-themed settings. While the original OVA series was praised for its stylistic flair and slapstick energy, it occupies a specific niche in the history of home video distribution, representing the era when independent publishers like ADV Films were aggressively importing cult titles to meet the burgeoning demand of North American anime fandom.
