Where it came from
Me & Roboco: The Movie was released in 2025 as a feature-length expansion of the popular comedic manga and anime series written and illustrated by Shuhei Miyazaki. Produced by Studio Gallop, the film continues the meta-humorous narrative surrounding Bondo Taira and his domestic robot, Roboco, a premise that parodies the classic boy-and-robot genre tropes while subverting audience expectations through rapid-fire pop culture references.
The design of the film maintains the aesthetic established in the television series, focusing on the stark contrast between the simplistic, often surreal character designs and the elaborate, hyper-detailed parodies of other shonen works. Upon its release, the project was noted by fans and critics for its commitment to the source material's signature brand of self-aware comedy, serving as a celebratory capstone to the series' ongoing exploration of artificial intelligence and friendship.
