The story takes place after 90 percent of humanity wiped out due to an invasion. Survivors live in a shelter where their lives are monitored, and memories of the invasion erased. Three teenagers from the shelter are chosen to pilot three machines that combine to form the Musashi robot, made out of a material named Megatronium alloy. The series will balance robot action with school life.

Where it came from
Megaton Musashi emerged as a cross-media project developed by Level-5, officially launching in 2021 with an anime adaptation produced by OLM. The series was designed to revitalize the classic mecha genre for a modern audience, blending high-octane robotic combat with a sprawling narrative concerning a post-apocalyptic Earth shielded from alien invaders. Its creation was part of a larger strategy to engage fans through simultaneous video game and television releases, emphasizing a cohesive visual language that marries traditional 2D animation with CGI action sequences.
The aesthetic of the series draws heavily on the legacy of 1970s and 80s super robot anime, updated with contemporary digital effects to appeal to both nostalgia-seeking viewers and new fans of the genre. Studio OLM sought to balance complex character dramas with the sheer scale of the massive 'Musashi' mecha, focusing on dynamic camera angles and kinetic pacing. While the series faced challenges in cutting through a crowded market, it remains a notable entry in the studio's catalog for its commitment to the classic hero-robot archetype.
