For most people, wearing glasses is a necessity for clear sight, but for four young girls, their spectacles mean so much more. From a teenage girl wearing her glasses with pride and a top idol who uses hers to disguise herself as a regular person, to a couple whose bent frames bring them closer together, a good pair of glasses can not only open your eyes, but also open your heart.

Where it came from
Megane na Kanojo, or 'Glasses Girlfriend,' was released in 2010 as a two-episode original video animation series produced by studio AIC. It was adapted from a popular manga series by writer and illustrator Togame, originally published in the seinen magazine Comic High!. The production emerged during a period of peak interest in romance-themed OVAs, aiming to translate the manga’s episodic, character-focused storytelling into a visually distinct anime format.
The series was designed to showcase individual vignettes centered around the trope of bespectacled romantic interests, emphasizing the endearing qualities associated with the 'megane' character archetype. AIC utilized a clean, approachable art style to maintain the lighthearted and affectionate tone of the source material. Upon its release, it was received as a niche but charming entry in the romantic comedy genre, appreciated primarily by fans of the original manga for its faithfulness to the character dynamics and gentle aesthetic.
