Mekakucity Days

Mekakucity Days is the debut studio album by the Japanese artist Jin, released in 2012. It serves as the foundational narrative installment of the Kagerou Project, a multimedia franchise that Jin began through the composition of Vocaloid music. The project centers on a group of teenagers with supernatural abilities known as the Mekakushi Dan, and this album effectively launched the series by introducing the core themes and character lore that would later expand into light novels, manga, and an anime adaptation.

The album's aesthetic and illustrative design were spearheaded by Sidu, an artist who played a crucial role in establishing the visual identity of the Kagerou Project. The artwork captures a modern, urban-fantasy sensibility that resonated deeply with internet culture during the early 2010s. Upon its release, the album was well-received by the Vocaloid community for its complex narrative structure and catchy, rock-influenced synth arrangements, eventually reaching the top of the Oricon weekly charts and cementing Jin’s status as a leading producer in the Vocaloid sphere.
