Where it came from
Released in 2017 as an original video animation, this episode serves as a thematic extension of the Minami Kamakura High School Girls Cycling Club anime series. Produced by J.C.Staff, the narrative follows the protagonists as they embark on a cycling tour through Taiwan, capitalizing on the popularity of the original manga series created by Noriyuki Matsumoto. The project was intended to showcase the growing interest in cycling tourism and the scenic landscapes of the region, aligning with the series' core focus on the camaraderie and lifestyle surrounding recreational bicycle riding.
The animation reflects the established design aesthetic of the series, maintaining a focus on character-driven storytelling and the technical depiction of cycling equipment. By transporting the characters to an international setting, the production aimed to offer viewers a departure from the suburban school life of the main show, emphasizing travel and cultural exploration. While the episode was a niche release aimed at dedicated fans of the cycling genre, it was received as a lighthearted continuation of the established character dynamics and visual tone defined by the studio.
