Mini Sengoku BASARA: Chousokabe-kun to Mouri-kun

Released in 2009 by Production I.G, Mini Sengoku BASARA: Chousokabe-kun to Mouri-kun is a comedic special short film based on the Sengoku BASARA franchise. It was produced as a lighthearted spin-off during the height of the series' popularity, focusing specifically on the intense, often exaggerated rivalry between the characters Motochika Chousokabe and Motonari Mouri. The short served as bonus content to supplement the main television anime adaptation, intended to provide fans with a humorous, chibi-styled break from the intense action of the main narrative.

The character designs for these shorts were adapted to a simplified, super-deformed aesthetic that allowed for expressive, slapstick comedy that would not fit the tone of the main series. By focusing on the trivial bickering between the two warlords, the production team leaned into the established fandom preference for character interactions over historical accuracy. The short was well-received by the existing audience as a charming, self-aware piece of fan service that highlighted the chemistry between the two iconic figures in the Sengoku BASARA mythos.
