Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2010 by Production I.G, Mini Sengoku BASARA Two: Tsukiyo no Katakura-kun is a short, comedic spin-off episode bundled with the home video releases of the Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Kings anime series. This mini-episode was designed to lean into the lighter, chibi-style aesthetic that characterized the franchise’s omake content, focusing on Kojuro Katakura in a humorous, non-canonical scenario that diverged from the epic, historical-fantasy tone of the main television broadcast.

The animation direction for these shorts was handled by the same core creative team at Production I.G responsible for the main series, aiming to provide fans with supplementary character-driven comedy. The shorts were well-received by the existing fanbase as a charming diversion, effectively utilizing the well-established character archetypes of the Sengoku BASARA roster to expand upon the franchise's expansive transmedia landscape.
