Where it came from
Mini Toji: Yume is a series of special, short-form animated episodes released in 2021 by Studio Gokumi. These episodes served as a lighthearted spin-off to the Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko franchise, focusing on the everyday, comedic lives of the characters in a super-deformed art style. The series was designed to provide fans with a relaxed, humorous alternative to the high-stakes combat and intricate lore established in the original television anime and mobile game installments.
The animation style and direction were intended to highlight the playful chemistry between the characters, utilizing a chibi aesthetic that was popular for side-story adaptations of fantasy action series. By shifting the tone from serious drama to slice-of-life vignettes, the studio aimed to expand the franchise's appeal beyond dedicated followers of the core narrative. Upon release, it was well-received by the established fanbase as a charming, low-pressure extension of the familiar character dynamics.
