Where it came from
Mirai e no Tegami: Kono Michi no Tochuu kara was produced by Studio Gaina and released in 2016 as a short original net animation. It was commissioned as a promotional project for the city of Koriyama in Fukushima Prefecture, intended to revitalize the region and encourage tourism following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The film serves as a reflective piece on the resilience of the local community and the continuity of life in the area.
The animation focuses on a narrative of hope and connection, utilizing a gentle, atmospheric visual style typical of Gaina's regional storytelling efforts. By centering on the landscape and the emotional ties of its characters, the creators sought to frame the recovery process through a personal lens. The piece was well-received by local audiences for its empathetic portrayal of the prefecture’s landscape and its focus on looking toward the future.
