Where it came from
Mirage QUEEN Prefers Circus is a 2022 original video animation produced by East Fish Studio. It serves as the third entry in the Mirage QUEEN series, which is based on the Kaitou Queen wa Circus ga Osuki light novel series authored by Kaoru Hayamine and illustrated by K2 Shoukai. The production was released during a period of renewed interest in the source material, aiming to capture the lighthearted, heist-oriented spirit of the original novels through a contemporary animation lens.
The animation focuses on the titular Queen, a master thief who travels the world seeking beautiful treasures. The visual style and direction were intended to maintain the mystery-adventure aesthetic defined by K2 Shoukai’s long-standing illustrations, which have been a staple of the franchise for decades. Upon its release, the project was noted for its faithfulness to the character dynamics of the light novels, receiving positive attention from the series' established fanbase for its sleek, stylized execution.
