Where it came from
Mirai Kara no Message, or Message from the Future, was released in 1988 as a promotional OVA commissioned by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Japan. The project was designed to educate the public, particularly younger audiences, about the future of telecommunications and the evolving landscape of technology in the late 20th century.
The production featured character designs by the acclaimed Rumiko Takahashi, best known for her iconic works such as Ranma 1/2 and Maison Ikkoku. Her involvement brought a recognizable aesthetic to the instructional narrative, helping to bridge the gap between bureaucratic messaging and engaging animation. While the title remains an obscure piece of educational media, it is frequently cited by collectors for its unique intersection of government-sponsored public service and high-profile animation talent.
