Where it came from
Mirai no Watashi was released in 2016 as a collaborative short film produced by Studio Colorido. The project was commissioned by the Japanese insurance company Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance to serve as a promotional piece, aiming to humanize the brand by focusing on themes of ambition, growth, and the connection between one's current self and their future aspirations. The short film utilizes the studio's signature vibrant, painterly aesthetic to convey a sense of optimism and emotional resonance.
The production reflects the studio's broader mission to create animation that feels both whimsical and grounded in human experience. Directed with a focus on fluid character movement and evocative storytelling, the short was well-received for its polished animation quality and its ability to deliver a compact, heartfelt narrative within a limited runtime. It remains a notable example of high-quality commercial animation that maintains the artistic integrity of the independent studio behind acclaimed works like Penguin Highway.
