Middle school 2nd year, Amano Yukiteru, is a boy who has problem making friends. He thinks of himself as a bystander and will always write down everything he sees in a cell phone diary.
Tormented by solitude, Yukiteru began to imagine things like a friend called Deus Ex Machina who is apparently the Lord of Time & Space. Seeing Yukiteru's miserable state, Deus gives him a new ability. His diary will now record events that will happen in the near future. Yukiteru is then forced to participate in a game which the winner will become Deus's successor.
A short OVA that was bundled with the limited edition of the eleventh volume of the manga.

Where it came from
The Mirai Nikki OVA, officially titled Mirai Nikki: Prospectus, was produced by Studio Asread in 2010 to serve as a promotional teaser for the then-upcoming full-length anime adaptation of Sakae Esuno’s popular manga series. Released alongside the eleventh volume of the original manga, the OVA was designed to demonstrate the feasibility of animating the series' complex survival-game mechanics and dark psychological themes to fans and investors.
Directed by Naoto Hosoda, the animation sought to establish a gritty, high-stakes visual language that would define the franchise. By distilling the frantic energy and violent intensity of the source material into a brief, high-production-value trailer, the studio successfully generated enough anticipation to greenlight the 26-episode series that followed in 2011. It remains a notable artifact of the transition from manga page to screen for this cult-classic title.
