Where it came from
Moon Pride was released in 2014 as the opening theme song for the rebooted anime series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal. Produced by Revo of Sound Horizon, the track was intended to bridge the nostalgia of the original 1990s series with a modern, more mature aesthetic that adhered closer to Naoko Takeuchi’s original manga illustrations. The composition emphasizes high-energy symphonic rock elements that reflect the series' enduring themes of empowerment and sisterhood.
The song is performed by the idol group Momoiro Clover Z, whose involvement signaled the franchise's intent to capture both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers. Upon its release, it was well-received by critics for its dramatic flair and dynamic vocal performance, which successfully updated the Sailor Moon musical identity while maintaining the operatic scale established by its predecessors. It remains a definitive piece of contemporary anime music, marking the twentieth-anniversary resurgence of the brand.
