Where it came from
The Mr. Osomatsu JRA special, titled 'Hashire! Oumatsu-san,' was produced in 2016 as part of a high-profile promotional collaboration between Studio Pierrot’s hit comedy series and the Japan Racing Association. Following the explosive resurgence of the Osomatsu-san franchise, which reimagined the classic 1960s sextuplets as NEET adults, this short was designed to leverage the show's chaotic, subversive humor to engage a younger demographic with horse racing culture.
Studio Pierrot maintained the series' trademark frenetic animation style and irreverent tone, centering the narrative on the Matsuno brothers’ comedic misadventures at the racetrack. The project was conceived as a multi-layered marketing campaign, blending traditional anime promotion with interactive web experiences. It was well-received by fans for retaining the show’s distinctive satirical voice while effectively integrating the specific branding and enthusiasm of the Japan Racing Association.
